We're getting better at this cake thing!
My grandparents 50th wedding anniversary was a couple of weeks ago. They decided to renew their vows, and my cousin got married the same day, right after my grandparents' renewal.
My mom and I made the cakes. I think they turned out pretty well.
The wedding cake was a 4 tier. 3 tiers were chocolate-chocolate chip cake with chocolate filling, and one tier was white cake with raspberry filling (for those who are not chocolate fans).
The anniversary cake was German chocolate. To make it work as a fondant covered cake, we put the German chocolate frosting as the filling.
I was very disappointed in the colorfastness of the Wilton gel colors. We made lavender flowers using the violet icing. The cake was in the sun for about half an hour, and the lavender faded to a light blue. Very sad. I will be investing in some AmeriColor gel coloring soon, as I've only heard good things.
